CATTANEO, CARLO°
CATTANEO, CARLO° (1801–1869), Italian jurist, statistician, and politician. Cattaneo was among a group, including Vincenzo Gioberti, Angelo Brofferio, Massimo, and Roberto d'Azeglio , which advocated reforms in favor of the Jews of Piedmont. His study "Ricerche economiche sulle interdizioni imposte dalla legge civile agli Israeliti" was first published in Annali di giurisprudenza pratica in 1836, and subsequently separately, having a wide circulation. It was one of the most influential publications in the struggle for Jewish emancipation in Italy.
